Useful information

Registering with Police

Citizens of certain countries will need to register with the police. If so, your passport will be stamped with 'police registration within 7 days of arrival' when you first arrive in the UK. Find out if you need to register here. It is extremely important to register promptly if you are required to do so. You will be charged £34 for your first registration, but there is no charge for a renewal. Failure to register may result in having to pay a fine of up to £5000.

Looking for a job

Arriving in London without knowing where to start looking for a job can be complicated and often confusing. Job agencies often specialise in particular industries, such as retail and hospitality, and once you have registered with them they will assist you with your job search and notify you of any vacancies. If you are looking to work in smaller individual bars, restaurants and shops then the best way to do this is:

  • - Go into the place yourself and ask about any potential vacancies
  • - Send your CV to them or give them a copy when you go there
